Do I have to pay for things a subscription sent without my consent?
In 8 states, the automatic-renewal law says goods sent without your affirmative consent to the renewal terms are an unconditional gift: you can keep them and owe nothing. Some of these laws cover goods only; check each state's wording below.

Under the same law, goods, wares, merchandise or products sent without the consumer's affirmative consent to the automatic renewal terms are deemed an unconditional gift.
California Business and Professions Code § 17600 et seq. (Automatic Renewal Law) - Connecticut
Under Connecticut General Statutes § 42-126b, if a business does not give the required notice of the right to cancel an automatically renewing contract for consumer products or services, products or services furnished after the contract period are deemed an unconditional gift.
Connecticut General Statutes § 42-126b - Georgia
Under the same Act, goods, wares, merchandise or products sent under an automatic renewal or continuous service agreement without first obtaining the consumer's consent are deemed an unconditional gift (this rule covers goods only).
Official Code of Georgia § 10-1-439.10 - Minnesota
Under the same law, any good sent under such an agreement without first obtaining the consumer's affirmative consent is an unconditional gift to the consumer; this rule covers goods only.
Minnesota Statutes § 325G.61 - New York
Under the same law, goods, wares, merchandise or products sent without the consumer's affirmative consent to the automatic renewal or continuous service terms are deemed an unconditional gift.
New York General Business Law § 527-a - North Dakota
Under the same law, merchandise sent or a service provided after the buyer took an affirmative act to cancel, or under an automatic renewal that does not comply with the law, is considered an unconditional gift to the buyer; this covers both goods and services.
North Dakota Century Code chapter 51-37 (Customer Contract Clauses and Automatic Renewals) - Oregon
Under the same law, goods, wares, merchandise or products sent without the consumer's affirmative consent are deemed an unconditional gift to the consumer.
Oregon Revised Statutes §§ 646A.292 to 646A.295 (automatic renewal and continuous service offers) - Virginia
Under Va. Code § 59.1-207.47, goods, wares, merchandise, or products sent under an automatic renewal or continuous service without the consumer's affirmative consent are deemed an unconditional gift to the consumer.
